Biorepack

Biorepack, with its registered office in Rome and operational office in Milan (Italy), is the national consortium for the recycling of compostable bioplastic packaging and represents this sector within the CONAI system. Established in November 2018 under Italian environmental law, it is a private non-profit body supervised by the Italian environment and enterprise ministries, and it describes itself as the first extended producer responsibility scheme in Europe for this type of packaging. Bioplastics producers are among its member companies.

Activities:

• end-of-life management of EN 13432 certified packaging collected with household food waste and recycled in composting and anaerobic digestion plants
• agreements with municipalities under a framework agreement with ANCI, with payments linked to the quantity and quality of collected material
• monitoring of compostable packaging placed on the market and composition analyses of organic waste
• information campaigns and action against non-compliant products
