Consorzio PolieCo

PolieCo, based in Rome (Italy), is the national non-profit consortium for the recycling of waste from goods made of polyethylene. Under Article 234 of Legislative Decree 152/2006, producers and importers, users and distributors, and recyclers and recoverers of polyethylene-based goods are obliged to join it in order to meet their environmental obligations. Its statute is set out in ministerial decree no. 253 of 10 July 2024.

The consortium's tasks include:

• ensuring the collection, recycling and other forms of recovery of waste from polyethylene goods
• promoting the use of polyethylene fractions that cannot be reused
• informing users on reducing material consumption and on correct collection
• arranging environmentally sound disposal where recycling is not possible or not economically viable

For its members PolieCo handles registration and online declarations, runs in-person and online training courses and webinars, and maintains a census of polyethylene-based products. It is also involved in projects such as the collection of agricultural plastic waste.
