Activity description
COREPLA, the national consortium for the collection, recycling and recovery of plastic packaging, is a private non-profit body based in Milan (Italy) that serves a public-interest purpose. It was set up in November 1997 under Legislative Decree 22/97 as successor to the Replastic consortium and now operates under Legislative Decree 152/06 within the CONAI system. In 2025 it had 2,426 member companies.
Members belong to four groups:
- producers of plastic raw materials for packaging
- manufacturers of plastic packaging
- companies using plastic packaging
- recyclers and recoverers of plastic packaging waste
COREPLA helps municipalities organise separate collection of plastic packaging and covers their main costs under a national CONAI-ANCI agreement. It ensures that collected material is recycled, sends packaging unsuitable for recycling to energy recovery, and promotes ecodesign and research into markets for recycled plastics. Funding comes from the CONAI environmental contribution and from the sale of recovered material.
