Albis to present material solutions at Fakuma 2026

Albis will present its product portfolio and selected material solutions at Fakuma 2026, taking place from October 12 to 16 in Friedrichshafen. At Booth 4206 in Hall B4, the globally active plastics distributor will focus on applications in mobility, healthcare, electrical and electronics, consumer products and construction. The company combines material and application expertise with technical consulting and knowledge of regulatory requirements.

"For our customers, the question is no longer simply which plastic works from a technical perspective," says Horst Klink, CEO of Albis. "What matters is which solution best meets the overall requirements of a specific application – technically, from a regulatory perspective and economically. This requires a comprehensive view of the application, the material and the relevant framework conditions."

Material selection for different industries

The exhibits will cover solutions for mobility and healthcare, electrical and electronics, as well as consumer and construction applications. Depending on the intended use, relevant criteria include chemical resistance, documented suitability, flame retardancy, electrical properties, design flexibility and processing efficiency.

Based on its portfolio and industry-specific application expertise, Albis can compare a range of thermoplastic material options and assess their suitability for individual applications. This approach takes into account not only technical performance but also regulatory and economic criteria.

Regulatory requirements and product data

Regulatory requirements and the availability of reliable product data are becoming increasingly important in material selection. Relevant issues include requirements concerning PFAS, food-contact and drinking-water applications in the EU, and new rules for the automotive and packaging sectors under the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation. Requirements concerning environmental information and environmental claims under the Empowering Consumers Directive are also part of the assessment.

Albis supports customers in identifying relevant requirements at an early stage and evaluating suitable material options. These include ISCC Plus-certified mass-balance solutions as alternatives to conventional fossil-based materials, as well as materials containing post-consumer recyclate for applications expected to be affected by future requirements under the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation.

According to the company, this enables regulatory developments to be considered early in material selection and product development. Available technical and environmental data, including independently verified information where applicable, can support transparent evaluation and documentation.

PFAS-free options for technical applications

In response to the proposed EU-wide PFAS restriction, Albis will highlight PFAS-free options and solutions in which PFAS are not intentionally added, referred to as NIA PFAS solutions, from its material partners. Many manufacturers are already offering or developing alternatives for applications that have traditionally depended on additives containing PFAS.

One example is a two-gear set for airport baggage-handling systems produced from BASF's PFAS-free Ultraform POM. The plastic design replaces a metal version and combines low wear and abrasion with reduced noise levels, while avoiding conventional additives containing PFAS.

Visitors to Booth B4-4206 will be able to discuss specific applications, regulatory issues and material options with Albis experts.
