Barmag has expanded its Digital Academy online training centre for the bulked continuous filament (BCF) process with a Chinese-language version. The platform was launched three years ago with courses in English, Spanish, French and Turkish. It now has 450 active users, most of whom are based in the United States. According to the company, online courses cause less disruption to production processes than in-person training, can address specific needs and are available more quickly. The addition of Chinese is intended to make the training accessible to a larger customer base.

Chinese BCF yarn manufacturer Taicang Universal Fibers Co. Ltd. is using the platform to train employees directly at the machine, with the aim of supporting correct machine operation. "With the Digital Academy, we can provide our employees with optimal support and further increase the efficiency of our equipment," said Tom Yu, Facility Manager at Taicang Universal Fibers.

Further process courses in preparation

Barmag plans to extend the Digital Academy to customers using other Barmag and Neumag processes. A training programme for the partially oriented yarn (POY) process is due to be introduced, while online courses covering the staple fibre process are being prepared.

The training centre is available through the myBarmag.com e-commerce platform. It provides e-learning modules covering the operation, maintenance and repair of Neumag BCF S+ and S8 systems. The programme is intended for machine operators, process engineers, technicians and quality managers.

Role-based modules and progress assessment

The Digital Academy provides compact, role-based learning units that can be accessed from mobile and desktop devices. The content presents Barmag's original equipment manufacturer expertise in machine operation and maintenance. Rather than relying on working methods developed individually at production sites, the courses describe standardised processes in detail and are designed to support the application of defined best practices.

Progress assessments are used to consolidate the course content, while examinations and certificates document participants' learning results. Feedback functions allow users to submit questions concerning the material. Access to the Digital Academy is granted for a specific location or company.
