Arburg welcomes 44 new apprentices and DHBW students

Arburg has welcomed 44 new entrants to its 2026 apprenticeship cohort in Lossburg. On 1 September 2026, 32 apprentices and 12 students from the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University, DHBW, began their vocational training or dual-study programmes at the company. Steffen Kroner, Managing Director Finance, Controlling, IT and Global HR at Arburg, and Michael Vieth, Director Apprenticeship, welcomed the new employees before the start of an induction week. The intake joins a long-running training programme that the family-run company presents as an important part of its personnel development. Arburg says that, over the past 75 years, more than 2,400 young people have started their professional careers at the company.

"For us, apprenticeships are a central building block for a successful future. Even in challenging economic times, there is no question that we will continue to provide apprenticeships," emphasised Steffen Kroner in his welcome address to the 2026 intake of apprentices on behalf of the Arburg Partner families, the management team and the entire workforce. "Over the past 75 years, we have laid the foundations for more than 2,400 young people to start their professional careers at Arburg. We are delighted that the 2026 intake of apprentices will now also be joining us in shaping Arburg’s future as the solution partner for sustainable plastics processing together with us".

Induction week in Lossburg

The company’s 2,000-square-metre Vocational Training Center will serve as the central hub for the new apprentices and DHBW students. To help the new recruits, trainers and other contact persons get to know one another, Michael Vieth and his team have prepared an induction week covering several activities.

The programme begins with a guided tour of the premises. It is intended to help the new entrants find their bearings, learn about the product range and gain an initial overview of Arburg as a company. Another element of the week is an outdoor team challenge at "Zauberland (land of magic)" in Lossburg, where participants will work through six stations designed to demonstrate skills, ingenuity and team spirit.

Project work and trade fair involvement

In addition to technical skills, Arburg’s training programme supports interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly through project work. Apprentices have won the VDMA’s "Carbon Busters" Award on several occasions. The VDMA, the association for the machinery and equipment manufacturing industry in Europe and Germany, presents the award to young people for their commitment to climate-related issues.

In 2025, a team of apprentices took part in CarbonX Week, sponsored by Arburg, during the Tal X Garden Show Freudenstadt Baiersbronn in Germany. Apprentices and students also staffed the arburgGREENworld pavilion at K 2025, the world’s leading trade fair for the plastics and rubber industry, in Düsseldorf.

For the "Mold your Future" Career Friday at the Fakuma plastics trade fair on 16 October 2026, more than 60 apprentices and trainers will join the Arburg exhibition team in Friedrichshafen, Germany. Young visitors will be offered guided tours of the stand, including information on Arburg’s digital portfolio and the range of career opportunities available at the company.

Certified apprenticeship programme

Arburg is currently training around 200 young people to become qualified personnel, with one in four of them enrolled as a DHBW student. The company works closely with vocational schools and cooperative universities.

In 2018, Arburg became the first company in Baden-Württemberg to achieve triple certification, including certification by TÜV Nord to ISO 29993 for quality management in vocational training. It has also received the LQW award, learner-oriented quality assessment in continuing education, and the seal of approval from the IHK, Germany’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The company states that it is one of the largest training providers in the northern Black Forest and that this year it received the newly introduced "Sustainability Certification for Apprenticeships". According to Arburg, these certifications confirm the quality of its apprenticeship programme.

Applications for 2027

Arburg provides needs-based training across more than 15 different professions. Around 50 places are available for 2027. The offering includes apprenticeship programmes and DHBW degree courses in commercial and technical fields.

The professions mentioned by the company include machining technician, product designer, plastic and rubber technologist, skilled personnel for warehouse logistics and IT specialists. Degree programmes include industrial engineering, computer science, mechatronics, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering.
