Arburg will demonstrate sprue-free production of 0.002-gram POM microfilters at Fakuma 2026. The cell combines an electric Allrounder 270 A, a micro injection module and a Multilift Select 4 robot.

At Fakuma 2026, Arburg will demonstrate the processing of shot weights below 0.01 grams with a production cell centred on an electric Allrounder 270 A. The application produces four microfilters with complex geometries in each cycle. Each component weighs 0.002 grams, resulting in a total shot weight of 0.008 grams. The parts are moulded without a sprue and then placed on a conveyor belt according to mould cavity by a Multilift Select 4 linear robot system.

Micro injection moulding requires close process control because components weighing only a few milligrams must be manufactured in series while maintaining tight tolerances. The machine and injection unit must provide both precise short-stroke control and the filling dynamics required for intricate structures. Arburg will present the production cell in Hall A3, Stand 3101, showing how the machine, mould, hot runner, handling system and measures to control static charge are combined in a reproducible process.

The electric Allrounder 270 A has a clamping force of 300 kN and is fitted with a micro injection module. A four-cavity mould from Toolcraft and a hot runner from Günther Heißkanaltechnik are also optimised for micro injection moulding. The system produces four POM microfilters in a cycle time of approximately seven seconds.

Sprue-free production reduces material consumption and associated costs. The Multilift Select 4 linear robot system, with a load capacity of four kilograms and an Arburg gripper, removes the parts and places them on the conveyor belt, separated by cavity. To prevent static build-up, the gripper component blows ionised air onto the parts. An ionising bar installed on the conveyor belt prevents further accumulation of static charge.

Micro injection module for very low shot weights

The Euromap size 5 micro injection module is designed for precise control of short travel strokes while maintaining high filling dynamics. It processes standard granule sizes and can therefore be used with common moulding materials.

To process the material according to the first-in, first-out principle, an 8-millimetre injection screw is combined with a separate plasticising screw with a diameter of 15 or 18 millimetres. The second screw melts the polymer, while the material is continuously conveyed from the feed point to the tip of the injection screw. The injection screw has a non-return valve and operates according to the screw-piston principle. This arrangement is intended to deliver very low shot weights with precise, short travel strokes.

Electric drive system and energy consumption

Machines in the Alldrive electric series use play-free, direct-acting spindle drives to perform fast, simultaneous movements. According to Arburg, this supports process reproducibility and consistent part quality. The servo-electric drive system also recuperates braking energy.

Arburg states that electric Allrounder machines can require up to 50 per cent less energy than conventional hydraulic machines. Their enclosed, liquid-cooled drives operate quietly and limit dust build-up and air turbulence, making them suitable for clean production environments.
