Clarios is expanding its portfolio of recycled plastics for the automotive industry with the Seculene product line. The range comprises polypropylene compounds made from 100% post-consumer recycled material and is intended for applications including battery housings, bumpers, underbody components and interior parts. According to the company, the expanded offering is designed to help vehicle manufacturers and suppliers address growing demand for high-performance recyclates and prepare for future regulatory requirements. Recycled polypropylene is becoming increasingly relevant to the automotive supply chain as proposed European rules introduce mandatory minimum recycled plastic content for new vehicles. The planned targets under the new European End-of-Life Vehicle Regulation call for 15% recycled plastic content by 2032 and 25% by 2036. A defined share would have to originate from end-of-life vehicles, increasing demand for recycled materials with reliable performance and availability.

Recycling and compounding capacity

Clarios is further developing its Seculene business at its Hanover site and at recycling facilities in Freiberg and Braubach, which were acquired in May 2026. The company is using these operations to extend its supply of recycled materials for the automotive sector and strengthen its capabilities across the polypropylene recyclate value chain.

"We are reaffirming Clarios' commitment to circular value creation, resilient European supply chains, and reliable customer partnerships by expanding our polypropylene recycling and compounding capabilities," said Dr. Christian Rosenkranz, Vice President Industry and Government Relations EMEA at Clarios.

Approximately 30 PP grades

Clarios will present the Seculene product line at Fakuma in Friedrichshafen from October 12 to 16. The portfolio includes approximately 30 material grades, covering unfilled and filled PP compounds as well as PP-EPDM compounds.

The range also contains a flame-retardant polypropylene compound certified to UL 94 V0 and listed with a Yellow Card. The material is intended to meet stringent fire protection requirements and enable use in safety-critical applications.
