Polyblend to invest €4 million in recycled compounds
Polyblend has confirmed a €4 million investment to convert an existing production line in Bad Sobernheim, Germany. The line is planned to produce up to 15 kt of compounds based on recycled feedstock from the end of 2027.
Polyblend has announced the final investment decision for the conversion of an existing production line at its site in Bad Sobernheim, Germany. The €4 million investment is intended to expand production of compounds incorporating mechanically recycled materials. According to the company, the project supports its ambition to strengthen polymer circularity through three pillars: rethink plastic use, reduce its impact, and recycle and develop circularity. The converted line is scheduled to start operations at the end of 2027 and will have capacity to produce up to 15 kt of compounds based on recycled feedstock.
New generation of recycled compounds
The project involves expanding an existing production line to manufacture a new generation of recycled compounds designed to meet growing market demand for sustainable solutions. Polyblend said the investment also anticipates forthcoming European circularity requirements in the automotive sector.
In particular, the proposed End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation is expected to introduce mandatory recycled-content targets for new vehicles. Such requirements would further increase demand for compounds incorporating recycled materials.
The initiative is aligned with Polyblend’s strategy to accelerate the development of circular solutions and support customers in reducing their environmental footprint. By increasing the integration of recycled materials into its compounds, the company aims to contribute to the development of a circular value chain.
Use of existing industrial infrastructure
"This investment is a tangible demonstration of our ambition to accelerate the development of circular polymers and expand our portfolio of recycled solutions. By leveraging existing industrial infrastructure, we can optimize resources used while maximizing the efficiency of our investments and position Polyblend GmbH as a key partner in the circular economy," said Michel Cassart, Polyblend Site Director.
