Injecting greenery for the plastics and rubber industries

The plastics and rubber technology is developing at a rocket speed. As a result of the increasing concerns from the public over environmental protection issues; the changing of industry towards high technology and automation; as well as the latest 12th Five-year Plan launched by China Government emphasizing on energy-saving, the plastics and rubber industries are heading towards the road of green and high-technology manufacturing.

At the same time, the market has been increasingly demanding for environmental friendly consumer goods with high-quality, lightweight and high performance. It causes the manufacturers to look for new production materials which can meet the expectation. Under such circumstance, the industry players are striking hard to develop high-end plastics and rubber materials and to explore new applications on various industries in order to meet global market development.

The 26th International Exhibition on Plastics and Rubber Industries (known as "Chinaplas 2012") is an exhibition which has been dedicatedly demonstrating the world's cutting-edge plastics and rubber technology, and it will be held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center, China, from 18th to 21st April 2012. Aimed at uniting the direction of industry development and building of an effective platform to assist the industry in implementing the green concept, the exhibition will actively align itself with the rapid development of China's plastics and rubber industries by showcasing advanced products, technologies and solutions from local and overseas. More importantly, Chinaplas 2012 will introduce new technology, concepts and designs, together with energy saving products to various industries and demonstrate high value-added new materials and innovative products in large scale to meet the procurement needs of buyers all over the world.

New Theme "The Future is in Plastics and Rubber"
It is important for an exhibition to have a clear and effective theme in order to lead all the participants to a common goal. Continued with the successful theme of "Green Plastics-Our Goal-Our Future" last year, Chinaplas 2012 has further refined the theme for this year to be "The Future is in Plastics and Rubber". It carries the meaning that plastics and rubber are new materials and are closely related to all aspects of our life. With their wide range of application, the new materials play a vital role in improving our future life and promoting the continuous development of other industries, through contributing enormously on energy conservation and environmental protection.

Due to different features including high flexibility, lightweight, low density, easy processing, high insulation and easy for recycling, plastics and rubber materials have been widely used among various industries, including their major user industries, such as automotive, electronics & electrical appliances, packaging, building & construction, plus other sectors, such as medical, lighting, photovoltaic, textiles, brewery, bottled water, food, packaging and printing, umbrella, watches, optical, shoes and bags industries, in which plastics and rubber materials and machines are applied to different extents during their production processes.

In order to uphold the social responsibility and in pursuit of the green vision, people is going to rely heavily on the new and high-technology plastics and rubber products. It is not difficult to understand that the future development of plastics and rubber industries will enjoy a brilliant future.

Guangdong is one of the major provinces in China specializing in plastics products manufacturing. According to industry data, Guangdong province occupies a one-fifth of plastics manufacturing as well as two-fifth of the export values among the whole China. Moreover, one-fifth of the major plastics manufacturing enterprises are situated in Guangdong province.

During a press conference held in Guangzhou in the morning of March 8, Mr Stanley Chu, Chairman of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd, Organizer of Chinaplas, stated that, Guangdong, being the largest province of the plastics industry, should strive for excellence by constantly undergoing production upgrading and transformation. Chinaplas 2012 is the world's largest plastics and rubber exhibition this year so that enterprises could source chemicals & raw materials, machines and equipment at the exhibition, and they could also participate in professional seminars for knowledge sharing and understanding of the market's latest and most efficient plastics and rubber technology, which would help strengthening the competitiveness of the South China enterprises.

Mr. Fu An, the Chairman of Guangdong Plastics Industry Association, one of the supporting units of Chinaplas 2012, supplemented that local enterprises were advised to visit Chinaplas 2012 to upgrade themselves and to help maintaining the status of Guangdong Province to be the largest province of plastics manufacturing industry in China. Additionally, he also encouraged the enterprises to enhance their technological level and replace traditional materials by applying new materials, equipment and technology, in order to narrow the gap with the international standard in the shortest period of time.

Highlighted Concurrent Event "The Future Zone"
To tie in with the theme of "The Future is in Plastics and Rubber", the organizer has created a concurrent event named "Future Zone" to showcase the boundless creativity on plastics application. One of the activities is called "Nurturing Our Future" program which will collaborate students of University and experts from the automotive and the plastics and rubber industries to combine plastics and rubber applications, technology and innovation for creating a brand new design of a "Future Car".

Three groups of finalists include: (1) LeoHunter - inspired by Leopard's speedy movement and flexibility. The essence is super lightweight, high stability and high speed; (2) Elf - the design is derived from the concept of military flight. The car body applies materials with ultimate strength and light-weight character with 360 degrees panoramic view without any blind spot, which greatly enhance its safety. (3) Batshark - inspired by the elegant and agile marine creature called bat shark. Its car body is made of special materials, utilizing solar energy as major power supply.

The three design concepts emphasize on high performance and energy saving. The panel of judges will select winner with the most creative concept which can also innovatively apply plastics and rubber being the production materials. The organizer will then showcase the winning entry by making a 1:1 car model at the "Future Zone" of the exhibition during Chinaplas 2012 in April. The organizers will provide detailed features, advantages of the product and how it can apply to the future world.

The second part of "Future Zone" is called "Premium Design Gallery" which will showcase a series of new, unique design of various plastic-made end products. Kingfa Sci. & Tech. Co Ltd, Dupont Titanium Tech (Shanghai) Co. and Bayer Material Science will showcase products in automotive, electronics & electrical appliances and packaging categories. Moreover, ASSOCOMAPLAST will bring its members to showcase a series of Italian designed plastics products.

Chinaplas 2012 is expected to have a record-breaking scale of 200,000sqm, which is the biggest exhibition of similar nature in 2012. Over 2,600 exhibitors from 35 countries and regions together with 13 countries/regions pavilions from Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, PR China, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UK and USA will gather under the same roof to showcase their diversified chemicals and raw materials and over 2,500 sets of machines in 11 theme zones.

It is noteworthy that Chinaplas 2012 has a new pavilion from Thailand. Moreover, Korea Pavilion's last participation at Chinaplas was in 2009, and this year with the strong support of the Korea Petrochemical Industry Association, it grandly returns. Their presence will further enhance the international status of the exhibition.

Chinaplas 2012 is expected to have over 100,000 visitors, expecting 20% are overseas buyers from 140 countries and regions. Currently, overseas delegations from India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, etc. will visit the show. In China, many users associations and well-known enterprises have registered to participate as delegation such as MicroPort Medical, Meiwaplast, YAPP Automotive Parts, Fujikon, Hangzhou Wahaha, Sogefi Group, FSPG Hi-Tech, Shantou Swart Wealthy International Packing Materials, Zhanjiang Packaging Materials, Rexam, Yanfeng Visteon, etc. On the other hand, major decision makers of well-known Guangdong enterprises, such as Danone Drinks, BYD, Amway, Li Ning Sports Goods, Valeo, GP Electronics, Mattel, Hisense, Yue Yuen Industrial, Huawei Technologies, Guangzhou Colgate, Guangzhou Honda Automobile, Guangdong Decro Film-Guangdong Strong Group, etc, have showed their support and registered to visit.
