Syensqo has won first place in the Compounding & Materials category of the inaugural Fakuma Innovation Award 2026 for Ryton PPS XE3500 OR. The high-performance polymer was demonstrated in an extruded busbar manufactured by Standard-Metallwerke and is intended for insulation applications in direct-current fast-charging systems for electric vehicles.

Ryton PPS XE3500 OR was designed specifically for DC fast-charging busbars used in systems capable of charging an electric vehicle battery from 20% to 80% in around 20 minutes. According to Syensqo, the material combines high-temperature resistance and dielectric strength with impact toughness. It also retains its distinctive orange colour, which supports the identification of high-voltage components and contributes to operational safety.

The material's durability and temperature stability are intended to support longer component service life. These properties can also enable increased power density and more compact system designs, with the potential to reduce material consumption and servicing requirements over the product lifetime.

Material requirements for fast-charging systems

"As charging power increases, materials must deliver greater electrical safety and thermal reliability without compromising design freedom or manufacturability. Ryton PPS XE3500 OR brings these requirements together in a material designed for established extrusion processes, helping our customers develop safer, more compact and durable fast-charging systems," said Andreas Lutz, Sales Manager Automotive EMEA at Syensqo.

The material has been developed for use with established extrusion processes. Syensqo reports that the award-winning technology is already in series production.

First edition of the Fakuma Innovation Award

The Fakuma Innovation Award was presented for the first time in 2026 by Schall Messen and K-Zeitung. The competition recognises technological progress across the plastics value chain. Entries were assessed by an independent expert jury, which selected Syensqo from five nominees in the Compounding & Materials category.

Syensqo is presenting the technology in a demonstrator at Fakuma 2026 in Hall B4, Booth 4213. Visitors can discuss the material's performance and potential applications with the company's specialists.
