Wittmann to debut WX253 linear robot at Fakuma 2026
Wittmann will present its R9 robot controller and debut the WX253 linear robot at Fakuma 2026. The exhibits focus on flexible cell integration, ease of programming, compact design and maintenance access.
At Fakuma 2026, taking place from October 12 to 16 in Friedrichshafen, Germany, Wittmann will demonstrate the capabilities of its R9 robot controller. Combining intuitive operation and programming with broad integration options, the controller is designed to simplify the configuration and use of automated production cells. It will be presented with several robots, including the new WX253 linear robot, which will be shown to industry professionals for the first time. The company will also provide a hands-on demonstration that allows visitors to test the operation of Wittmann robots and the R9 controller. A complete work cell will be simulated using LEDs, enabling users to follow the results of their inputs through light effects. Wittmann will exhibit in hall B1, booth 1204.
R9 as a communication platform for auxiliary equipment
The R9 is designed not only as a robot controller, but also as a communication platform for the auxiliary equipment in networked production cells. This approach eliminates the need for separate controllers for other system components. The controller can integrate up to twelve servo axes, enabling it to manage complex automation tasks. Analog and digital inputs and outputs are available for connecting a range of automation components, while an OPC UA interface is included as standard.
The TeachBox supports operation through a touchscreen and live 3D animations. It also includes buttons with tactile feedback for precise motion control and switching between operating modes.
To simplify programming and operation without restricting flexibility, the R9 provides three user-specific operating concepts. The animated QuickNew Wizard program editor guides users through programming and presents complex applications in a clear format. QuickEdit allows commands to be modified and values entered while retaining the general program syntax. This enables production personnel without extensive automation knowledge or experience to operate the robot.
The TextEditor is intended for experienced programmers and allows each sequence to be created line by line. The required function is performed on the robot and added to the program by pressing a button. Names can be assigned freely to inputs and outputs, cylinders, grippers and vacuum circuits. Together with the comment function, this supports application-specific configuration while keeping sequences legible.
For programming on a PC, the complete TeachBox interface can be transferred. As the R9 TeachBox runs on Windows, it can also be connected to other platforms. Drive monitoring and automatic gripper and tool recognition are intended to support process reliability. SmartRemoval was developed to reduce intervention time and contribute to cycle-time optimization.
WX253 combines compact construction with easier maintenance
The robots in the WX series use a modular design and Wittmann's platform strategy to combine application flexibility with cost efficiency. The latest model, the WX253, will make its debut at Fakuma 2026. Development of the linear robot focused on a compact, space-saving layout and improved maintenance access compared with its predecessor, the WX153.
The control cabinet on the horizontal Z-axis and the valve block housing on the vertical Y-axis have been made more compact. Access to the guide carriages on the Y-axis has also been improved to simplify maintenance. The X ejection axis is 100 mm shorter while retaining the same stroke. The WX253 is rated for payloads of up to 35 kg.
