New servo-driven removal system from Wittmann reduces energy consumption

2026-10-28

Presented at Fakuma 2026, the WS90 removal system uses servo drives to reduce compressed air consumption. Designed for payloads up to 2 kg, it supports sprue removal and small-part handling on injection moulding machines.

The new WS90 removal system uses servo motors, thereby reducing compressed air consumption

Wittmann unveiled the WS90 servo-driven removal system at Fakuma 2026 in Friedrichshafen. The device is designed for sprue removal and small-part handling in injection moulding applications. By replacing the pneumatic actuation used in conventional sprue pickers with servo drives, the system significantly reduces compressed air consumption. The servo technology also allows acceleration and deceleration values to be adjusted to the requirements of each application. According to Wittmann, this reduces the time the robot arm remains in the mould area and supports low-vibration operation. The resulting improvement in removal and placement precision enables the WS90 to perform simple pick-and-place tasks involving small parts.

The WS90 is equipped with a full-featured R9 controller and supports synchronised axis movements. All main servo axes can perform three-dimensional movements simultaneously, helping to shorten handling times. The system operates within a limited installation space, which allows the safety enclosure of the production cell to remain compact. Depending on the application, this can reduce the space requirements and cost of the cell. Axis positions can also be adjusted for different handling tasks.

Integration and application range

The WS90 is designed as a replacement for existing removal systems. In integrated production cells equipped with Wittmann injection moulding machines, operators can control the device directly through the machine's B8X control panel.

The servo-driven removal system is rated for payloads of up to 2 kg. Its main application range covers injection moulding machines with clamping forces from 35 to 180 metric tonnes.
