Servomold to present linear unscrewing unit at Fakuma
Servomold will introduce its servo-electric linear unscrewing unit at Fakuma 2026. The system electronically synchronises the rotation and axial movement of threaded cores for demoulding internal threads in injection moulds.
Servomold will present its newly developed servo-electric linear unscrewing unit (SLU) for the first time at Fakuma 2026. Designed for demoulding helical internal contours, the unit combines rotational movement of the core with linear motion in the axial direction. Both movements are synchronised with micrometre-level precision, enabling fast and repeatable demoulding of threads used in plastic components for auto-injectors, pens and similar drug-delivery systems.
The SLU is available in two sizes, offering minimum core spacings of 40 mm and 60 mm. According to Servomold, these dimensions support compact mould designs. One unit can drive up to eight threaded cores, while a configuration comprising four units can be used in moulds with up to 32 cavities.
Standardised core holders equipped with customised mould contour attachments are intended to facilitate changes between different contours and thread pitches. An integrated linear guide directs the slide body and allows additional non-rotating contours to be demoulded. When the mould is closed, a mechanical locking mechanism maintains micrometre-precise axial positioning of the threaded core, including under high injection pressures. Cooling for the slider and core is integrated directly into the system to support short cycle times.
Electronic synchronisation of two axes
In conventional unscrewing systems, a lead screw nut converts the rotational movement of the threaded core into an axial stroke. As a result, the thread pitch, rotation and linear motion are coupled mechanically. The SLU separates these functions. One servo drive provides rotational movement, while a second generates the linear stroke.
Servomold's MoldControl system electronically synchronises both axes. The movement ratio is entered in the control system according to the thread pitch. The rotational and linear movements can also be operated independently. This can be used, for example, when a long sleeve section must be demoulded by linear movement after a thread has been unscrewed.
The design eliminates the lead screw nut and corresponding lead screw, as well as the lubrication and adjustment work associated with these components. Because the SLU uses servo-electric actuation, it does not require hydraulic oil. This is intended to simplify low-maintenance operation and enable use in cleanrooms.
Working model at Fakuma 2026
Visitors to Hall A2, Stand A2-2111 will be able to observe the motion sequence of the SLU on a working model. The exhibit will be controlled by Servomold's SMC, Servo MoldControl, introduced in 2025. Its functions include automatic switching between different position-sensing systems and an interface designed for intuitive operation.
